GLASS TYPES AND PATTERNS
Glass Types
There are 3 main types of glass. These are:
Annealed or float - glass breaks into large shards.
The Grade A safety glasses are.
Laminated - two pieces of glass with a laminate film between the two pieces. When broken the glass stays stuck together.
Toughened - heat treated glass that breaks into tiny crystals.
Residential windows are annealed glass. This can be for clear and patterned glass.
Laminated and toughened glass must be used in doors, door side lights, shower screens and bathroom windows.
In commercial properties, the laminated and toughened safety glass is used in all windows and doors.
GLASS PATTERNS
Glass comes in many different patterns. Pattern glass in normally 4-6mm thick. The glass can be toughened or laminated which allows it to be used in doors and bathroom windows.
There are only a couple of laminated pattern glass types. Toughened glass can not be cut. It needs to be cut to size before the toughening process. If your door or bathroom window is broken, we will temporarily glaze the window in clear laminated glass while the pattern glass is being toughened.
